Stopping Smoking

#QUITFORCOVID

If you would like to quit smoking, you can now text 'QUIT' to 85222 to access our service!

If you are a smoker wanting to quit, the Today is the Day website has information and support about starting your journey to a smoke-free life.

The Chief Medical Officer and Health Secretary have both highlighted that smokers are at increased risk from COVID-19. Smoking harms the immune system, reducing the body’s natural protection against infections, like coronavirus. Smokers are therefore at greater risk of worse symptoms of COVID-19- therefore we are fully in support of Quit For Covid! You can follow the Quit For Covid campaign online at https Today is the Day or search #QuitforCovid on Twitter.

Thinking about stopping smoking?

No matter how long you've smoked for, quitting can help improve your health straight away. After quitting, nicotine will be out of the body within 48 hours and your ability to taste and smell will improve. After 1 year your risk of heart disease is about half compared with a person who is still smoking. Stopping smoking is the single most helpful thing you can do to improve your health and the health of the people around you.

Live Well Stay Well can also support those from age 12 to stop smoking.

On this page you will find useful online resources, information and advice to help you on your journey towards your stop smoking goals.

We are continuing to help smokers quit during the pandemic: but as we cannot currently see smokers in person we are running telephone/ email/ video call support and advice sessions and stop smoking aids are arranged by post or pharmacy referral accordingly.   Live Well Stay Well Coaches will offer you the support and motivation you need to provide the best chance of success, they can also talk to you about and prescribe Nicotine Replacement Therapy.  By registering your details on our secure online form, you will have access to range of services to choose from as well as our self-assessment tools, digital goal setting and lots of other online resources too.  Why not register your details and see if you are eligible for one of our free support programmes?
