Nutrition and Hydration Week 2022

Did you know 3 million people are at risk of malnutrition in the UK?

Nutrition and Hydration Week 2022 aims to raise awareness of the importance of eating and drinking well in later life. It runs from 14th - 20th March and welcomes all who have contact with older adults to be involved

1 in 10 older adults are under nourished in this country. Therefore it is really important to take steps to make sure those we know, patients, those we care for, friends, family and neighbours are eating well and staying hydrated. By doing this we can improve the health and wellbeing of those around us.

Have you noticed someone you know has been losing weight or that their appetite is reduced? Starting a general chat about food and cooking helps create a friendly and safe environment to approach the subject. Here are some ideas for how to start a conversation:

  • What is your favourite meal?
  • Are there foods you have never tried before?
  • What do you enjoy cooking?
  • Do you have a signature dish?
  • Do you find it difficult to cook/shop?
  • Do you feel your appetite has changed?
  • Does anything stop you from eating the foods you enjoy?
  • How many meals do you eat a day?

Why not start a conversation this week with someone you know who could be at risk of malnutrition?
