Stoptober 2020 - Quit Smoking and Breathe

Have you been thinking about quitting smoking and wondering how to go about it?

Here are some reasons to stop:

  • If you smoke, you generally have an increased risk of contracting respiratory infection and of more severe symptoms once infected. Coronavirus symptoms may therefore be more severe if you smoke. For more information, click here.

  • No matter how long you have smoked your health will improve straightaway. After 20 minutes your pulse rate will return to normal and after 8 hours nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in your body will have reduced by at least half and your oxygen levels will have returned to normal. • You will have more cash in your pocket. If you smoke 1 packet a day you will save £250 in a month. Take a look at the free Stoptober app here

  • You will be protecting your family from secondhand smoke, reducing their risk of developing asthma and some cancers.

Stoptober 2020 launches on 1st October. It is a 28 day campaign to encourage and support smokers to quit. Research shows that if you quit for 28 days you are five times more likely to quit for good.

Of course quitting isn’t easy with just willpower alone. Your chances of quitting will increase three times if you get 1:1 support with a Stop Smoking Advisor. They can also give advice and help you access aids to help you manage your cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
