No Smoking Day 2020

No Smoking Day 2020 is on Wednesday 11th March.

The campaign is focusing on the health benefits from quitting smoking, highlighting that it doesn’t matter how long you have smoked for, or how many you smoke a day, your health will improve as soon as you quit.  The health benefits are both immediate and long term.

Did you know that:

  • 20 minutes after putting out your last cigarette your pulse rate is returning to normal and your heart is working less hard.

  • 48 hours after putting out your last cigarette your lungs are clearing of mucus and your taste and smell are improved.

  • 72 hours after putting out your last cigarette breathing is becoming easier and you will have more energy.

  • 3 to 9 months after putting out your last cigarette your lungs are working 10% better and you will be coughing less.

  • 1 year after putting out your last cigarette your risk of having a heart attack is halved.

Although quitting can feel like a big challenge - there is a lot of support available and you increase your chances of quitting by getting this support.
