Today is the Day

Wednesday 13th March 2019 is No Smoking Day.

Quitting smoking is one of the best things your patients can do for their health. Many smokers want to stop but are not sure about the best way to quit. However willpower alone is the least effective way to quit and those who get support from a stop smoking service are four times more likely to stop smoking.  The Live Well Stay Well Stop Smoking service offers appointments across Buckinghamshire in convenient community locations, as well as phone appointments.

The health benefits to your patients start as quickly as 20 minutes after stopping smoking with their pulse rate returning to normal. After 8 hours levels of nicotine and carbon monoxide in the blood are halved and oxygen levels are normal. In the longer term the health benefits include the risk of heart disease being halved, after 1 year, compared to someone who is still smoking. National No Smoking Day is a day that everyone can come together to motivate and support others to take the first steps towards quitting smoking.

This year’s campaign ‘Today is The Day’ celebrates people’s stories of quitting smoking. These stories can be found here and there is also an opportunity for those who have quit smoking to submit their story too.

Campaign resources, including social media posts and tweets, posters, email footers, plasma screens, banners and flyers, are available from the campaign website
